Case Information Statement
Every case in the State of New Jersey requires the completion of a Case Information Statement. The Case Information Statement is a form that evolves over time and is currently eight pages with ten pages of attachments.
The Case Information Statement lists all of the statistical information of the parties such as name, address, social security number, driver's license number, children's names, children's dates of birth, income information, tax information, and statistical information.
It requires the attachment of three years of tax returns as well as the last three pay stubs.
Additionally, one of the most important parts of every divorce, the Case Information Statement requires each party to set forth a budget as to the standard of living acquired during the marriage.
This form is the most important document in the divorce. It will allow each party to track the money that was spent during the marriage and also prepare each party for life after divorce and also sets forth assets and liabilities that the parties have, not only those that are subject to equitable distribution.
What is most amazing is that people itemize monthly expenses that far exceed monthly income. It further shows that even though they are spending more money than was being earned they were able to accumulate assets. This of course is impossible. Numbers have to balance.
There is no question that this form has to be done correctly.
